WOODLEAF — The Gospel Voices will present a concert on Sunday at 6 p.m. in Unity Fellowship Hall of Unity Presbtyerian Church. A love offering will be taken for the group, and refreshments will be served following the concert.
The Gospel Voices are from the Union Grove area. The group features a full band with string instruments, southern style piano, and a four part male quartet. Theirs is a unique blend of Southern Gospel, Country Gospel, and Appalachian Mountain Gospel.

CHINA GROVE — For five weeks starting March 12 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Pastor Ken Reed will offer a Lenten Bible study on Wednesday evenings.
The series called “Getting Through The Night,” will explore scriptural, spiritual and practical approaches to grief and loss. A meal is offered at 6 p.m. and Bible study begins at 7 p.m. Concordia is located six miles west of downtown China Grove on NC Hwy 152.
The speaker for this year’s Wednesday evening Lenten services at First United Methodist Church will be Dr. Albert Aymer, former president of Hood Theological Seminary. The services begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12 and conclude on April 9 and are held in the chapel, best accessed from its entrance on the corner of Church and Bank Streets.
Dr. Aymer’s theme will be “The New Testament understanding of the Atonement—How does the death of Jesus save people from their sins?” Dr. Aymer describes this subject as:
“A belief central to the Christian faith is that the death of Jesus the Christ saves humanity from their sins. That belief raises the question: How is Jesus’ death such a saving event?
“In this five-week study, we will … examine those answers in light of their helpfulness and their inadequacies, and we will look at some of the hymns of the church in which those answers are expressed, mindful of the fact that in Christendom (and in Methodism in particular) we sing our theology.”
St. Paul’s Episcopal and Haven Lutheran Churches will hold a joint Lenten Bible study each Wednesday night during Lent.
There will be a light meal at 6 p.m. and the Bible study will begin at 7 p.m. Rev. Rick Williams and Rev. Ed Harper will lead the study that features an innovative approach to preaching during Lent: a dialogue format. Each sermon will feature a key figure of the passion story in an interview in which various friends of the Savior share what they have to say in regard to their relationship to Jesus.
The first service will be held on Wednesday March 12. All services will be held at Haven Lutheran Church, 207 W. Harrison St.

The Singles’ Ministry of Word of Life Family Worship Center will hold their 2014 Singles Conference on Saturday and Sunday, March 15 and 16 on the theme of “In It to Win It!” featuring Evangelist Faith Nagel of The Sword and the Spirit Ministries and Pastor Kathy White of Bethel Power in Faith Ministries in Salisbury.
The conference begins on Saturday, March 15 with a continental breakfast from 8:30-8:50 a.m., followed by sessions at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Following the last session there will Q&A and a luncheon. These sessions are for singles only.
The conference will conclude on Sunday, March 16 at the 10 a.m. service where Evangelist Faith Nagel will speak.

On Sunday, March 16, Milford Hills Baptist Church will celebrate WMU Sunday at their 11 a.m. service with guest speaker Phyllis Foy, missionary with the North American Mission Board. She and her husband, Bob, assist in the area of church renewal. They live in Mooresville.
Foy is a women’s conference leader and has led conferences in South Africa, Germany and across the nation.
The North American Mission Board is the Southern Baptist Convention mission agency which assists SBC churches in reaching the United States, Canada and their territories with the gospel. The Board oversees more than 5,000 missionaries.
Spencer Presbyterian Church will have a breakfast and bake sale Saturday, March 22 from 7:30-10:30 a.m. with pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausages, grits, toast, coffee, milk and orange juice for $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
Proceeds will support various ministries of the church. Breakfast will be served in the fellowship hall of the educational building, 117 First Street, off Salisbury Avenue across from the entrance to the NC Transportation Museum. The public is invited.
The Ladies Group of Carmel Baptist Church will sponsor a Poor Man’s Dinner on Saturday, March 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are available for plates at $6 each with all proceeds going to Rowan Helping Ministries, a delicious old-fashioned meal to help a good cause.
