Authorities aren’t sure why anyone would want to steal snakes, but they say that’s exactly what a couple took from a local pet store. The man and woman have not been identified nor have they been caught, but did manage to take four corn snakes from Main Stream Pets in Salisbury.
Owner Scott Hamby reported the Thursday theft, saying he believed the snakes were taken the day before, but were just discovered missing from his store. The store is located at 5675 S. Main St., Salisbury.
He said the couple were at the snake cages and told him they were just looking. Hamby said around the same time a supply truck arrived and he turned his attention to the truck. He noted the couple left soon after. The next day, Hamby and an employee noticed two cages were empty and four snakes were gone. They searched the store thinking the snakes had gotten out, a report said, but then believed the couple took them.
The man is described as being 5 feet 8 inches tall with acne and a cleft lip. The woman is described as being 5 feet 4 inches tall with brown hair with blonde highlights. Both are Caucasian. The store reports the snakes were valued at about $10 apiece. Main Stream Pets opened earlier this month.
