Dr. Ellen Crowell Poland of Elm City, N.C., graduated from East Carolina University July 27, 2013, receiving her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) and Ph.D. in Audiology. Her hooding ceremony was held Dec. 13, 2013.
Her doctoral dissertation was titled “Hearing Aids in Older Adults: Audibility, Outcomes, Status, Characteristics and Skills.”
Ellen is a 2004 graduate of West Rowan High School, where she was Valedictorian. A Park Scholar, in 2008 she earned degrees in Communication and Sociology from North Carolina State University, graduating summa cum laude and Valedictorian. Ellen is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies.
Ellen is a Clinical Audiologist at Eastern Carolina Ear, Nose and Throat in Greenville, N.C.; and is an Adjunct Instructor for the University of Alaska in Anchorage.
The daughter of Larry and Betsy Crowell of Salisbury, Ellen is married to Stuart Poland. She is the granddaughter of Vanda Crowell and the sister of Emily Crowell Weddington and Elizabeth Crowell.
