A Rowan County man was charged with robbery and assault after warrants say he punched a local attorney and stole from the law office.
Salisbury police charged Allen Eugene Billings, 30, of the 300 block of Railroad Street, with felony common law robbery and misdemeanor assault and battery Saturday.
Warrants say Billings went to the Nance and Overbey law firm, located in the 200 block of East Innes Street, on Friday and took $281 and an engraved wooden gavel valued at more than $300 from the firm. He then punched attorney Bradley Nance in the stomach and in the face, according to reports.
Billings has been convicted of various assault charges, including assault on an officer or state employee, assault on a female, assault on emergency personnel, communicating threats and fictitious information to law enforcement, all of which are misdemeanors. He remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond. He is expected in court Monday.
