A Massachusetts man was cited by police for marijuana possession following a random check of a motel room late Wednesday night.
Salisbury Police issued the citation for simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia to Spencer Phillip Linick, 28, of Park Avenue. Both offenses are misdemeanors.
Police officers conducted a “walk through” of the Super 8 motel, 925 Bendix Drive, around 9 p.m. where they smelled marijuana coming from a room there.
Officers found .2 grams of marijuana and a smoking pipe, a report said.
Police Capt. Melonie Thompson said officers began checks a few weeks ago after many of the hotels located along Bendix Drive had an abundance of drug and other illicit activity.
The Salisbury Police Department attributes the crimes at these hotels to people who rent the rooms for a week or month at a time. While some people rent the rooms to conduct drug activity, others rent them to have parties, Thompson said.
The hotels on Bendix Drive are the ones police have the most calls for drugs and other similar activity, she said.
