South Carolina law enforcement officials are investigating the death of a Salisbury man who was found unconscious in the York County Detention Center Saturday night.
Leonard Daniel Savercool Jr., 35, was found at 9:15 p.m. lying in the floor of a housing unit not breathing.
EMS personnel were immediately called and responded to the detention center. The York County Coroner’s Office along with State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating his death.
Officials with the York County Sheriff’s Office said Savercool was booked into the detention center April 25 on charges from the Fort Mill Police Department of petit larceny and entering premises after warning.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Savercool during this difficult time,” York officials said.
Savercool was the subject of residential complaints regarding trash that had begun to pile up at rental property located at 350 Catfish Terrace, Salisbury, in the Fisherman Cove subdivision. Savercool was in violation of the county’s solid waste ordinance and ignored complaints. He was taken to court in February.
