School board meets Monday to hear district updates, policies

The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education will discuss a digital conversion plan that will include “putting a laptop in the hands of every teacher the week before they go home for the summer” at its meeting Monday, according to Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody.
In addition, Assistant Superintendent of Administration Nathan Currie will give the board an update on the district’s anti-bullying task-force and district curriculum, and human resources and financial leaders will discuss repurposing and eliminating positions in the school system.
The Board will conduct a first reading on policies dealing with extracurricular activities, foundations and basic commitments and vision and mission statements, as well as continue its discussion about the possibility of converting board policies with the help of the North Carolina School Board Association.
Public Information Officer Rita Foil will discuss a statewide campaign that garners for support and respect of North Carolina’s public schools and celebrates their 175 years in the state.
The board will hear from representatives from Landis and Overton Elementary Schools.
The board’s consent agenda includes the district’s third quarter purchasing report, March financial summary and budget amendments and five separate field trip requests.
Chairman of the Board Dr. Richard Miller said the group will finalize mediation paperwork and go over personnel reports during closed session.
The Board of Education will meet Monday at 5 p.m. at the Rowan-Salisbury administrative offices, 110 South Long St. in East Spencer.
