CHINA GROVE — Rowan authorities say thieves broke into a number of cars in China Grove taking cash, pills and a handgun. Officials with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said some of the vehicles were unlocked.
One victim told officials he’d held a party over the weekend at his home in the 1000 block of Weaver Road, and the cars that were broken into belonged to his friends who stayed the night.
The man said someone rummaged through the cars sometime late Saturday into Sunday, all of the vehicles were unlocked.
Authorities said one victim, of the 100 block of Brookwood Drive, China Grove, had prescription medication and $11 taken from her vehicle. Another victim, of the 2300 block of Lamb Drive, Salisbury, had $70 and a cell taken from her vehicle.
The man’s neighbor contacted law enforcement about a break-in at his Weaver Road home where thieves took a .22-caliber pistol from his vehicle. It is unclear if the vehicle was locked.
Another neighbor, of the 2100 block of Weaver Road, told deputies her nephew-in-law told her he found her purses on the road near his home Sunday afternoon.
She told officials the bags were inside her vehicle that was parked in the family’s garage. The garage door was up. The only items taken from her purses were prescription medications. The victim told authorities she didn’t have money in the purses. The victim also said she believed she heard something around 12:30 a.m. No arrests have been made in these incidents.
