O’Brien debuts

Danny O’Brien (Catawba) made his professional debut in a Canadian League preseason game on Saturday night.
O’Brien was 5-for-14 passing for 57 yards for the Ottawa RedBlacks in a 21-17 loss to Saskatchewan, the defending Grey Cup champions.
Rowan County is scheduled to play Mocksville at Rich Park tonight at 7 p.m.
Southern Rowan and Kannapolis remain on a break to accommodate senior trips.
Rowan County edged West Rowan. Harrison Smith was the winning pitcher. Alec Hamilton earned a save.
Chandler Lippard had the game-winning RBI.
Frank Adams III of Salisbury shot 69-68-70-71 — 278 and finished 10-under in the eGolf Tour’s Forest Oaks Classic in Greensboro.
Adams won $1,550.
Connor Bridges (Carson, App. State), Matt Mauldin (North Rowan, Wake Tech), Clint Veal (North, Catawba Valley CC), Bradley Robbins (East Rowan, Brewton-Parker), Ethan Free (Carson, Catawba) and Parker Hubbard (South Rowan, Brevard) are on the roster of the Rowan Patriots, a North Rowan-based team in the All American Collegiate Baseball League.
The Kannapolis Intimidators’ only SAL all-star was traded on Saturday.
Kannapolis pitcher Jake Sanchez was dealt to the Oakland Athletics organization in exchange for Triple-A outfielder Michael Taylor.
Taylor will be assigned to Charlotte.
Another player will be announced to replace Sanchez in the SAL All-Star Game.
• J.T. Riddle drove in three runs to lead Greensboro to a 4-2 win over Kannapolis on Saturday. Greensboro won its ninth in a row and moved closer to clinching the first-half title.
• Whit Merrifield (Davie, South Carolina) had three hits for Omaha in a Triple-A game on Friday.
• Nick Lomascolo (Catawba) was assigned to the State College Spikes in the New York-Penn League.
West Rowan Falcon Basketball Camp for boys and girls is set for July 14-16.
Camp is from 9-1 daily for players who will be in grades 2-9. The cost is $50.
