Little new information surfaced a day after a Salisbury man killed his father at their Pineview Circle home and later killed himself in a Charlotte area motel room.
Rowan County Sheriff’s officials found Kenny Lewis Smith Sr., 68, dead in his home Tuesday after family members had tried to contact him but never received a response. Sheriff’s officials said 44-year-old Kenny Smith Jr., who also lived at the house, was gone and so was his father’s bank card. Investigators said Smith Jr., also known as Pee Wee, left Salisbury sometime Tuesday and headed for the Charlotte area.
According to an incident report released by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Kenny Smith Jr. shot himself and was found dead sometime before 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Microtel Inn & Suites on Queen City Drive, close to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The type of gun used was not provided in the report. It is not clear whether Kenny Smith Sr. was shot.
Rowan Sheriff’s investigators went to the Salisbury home around 10:30 a.m and later issued arrest warrants for Kenny Smith Jr. for murder and felony robbery. He was also added to the sheriff’s office most wanted list.
A Post reporter made contact with the family, but a family member declined to be interviewed, saying they wanted to put this incident behind them.
