Intimidators walk off

The Kannapolis Intimidators
A walkoff homer by T.J. Williams lifted the Kannapolis Intimidators to a 4-3 win against the Charleston RiverDogs on Saturday night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
The Intimidators are 7-3 in the second half of the SAL season and 36-41 overall.
• Corey Seager (NWC, Kannapolis Legion) had his 30th double for Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday.
• Whit Merrifield (Davie) has been red-hot since being promoted to Triple-A Omaha. He had four hits Saturday and is batting .426 in his last 10 games.
• Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) broke out of a slump with a three-hit game for Birmingham on Saturday.

Wood bat leagues
Clint Veal (North Rowan, CVCC) pitched into the seventh inning of the Rowan Patriots’ 9-4 win against the Mooresville All Americans in the All-American Collegiate Baseball League.
Parker Hubbard (South Rowan, Brevard) and Connor Bridges (Carson, App. State) scored two runs each for Rowan.
• Greg Tonnesen (Carson, Campbell) had a double for the Coral Springs Canes in the South Florida Collegiate Baseball League on Friday.
• Eric Tyler (South Rowan, ECU) has raised his batting average to .293 for the Lake Norman Copperheads of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League.
• Justin Evans (West Rowan, Carson-Newman) is 2-0 for the Copperheads. He pitched a 1-2-3 inning in relief on Saturday.
• Shaefer Shepard (Catawba) is 1-0 with a 2.10 ERA after four starts for the North Adams SteepleCats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

Local golf
Walker Cress shot 66 Saturday for the first-round lead in the CPGA Junior Championship at Coastal Carolina’s Hackler Course.
Nick Lyerly shot 72 and is tied for 14th overall and tied for fifth in the 13-15 division.
Carley Cox shot 79 and is tied for 11th in girls overall.
• Thirty players participated in the Big Game at The Crescent.

Rowan Little League
The Rowan Little League Softball All Stars captured their first ever 10U District 2 title by defeating King 24-2.
They defeated King 18-5 and Davie 21-0 in their previous two games in the double-elimination tournament. Rowan will travel to Franklin for the state tournament on July 12-16.

China Grove
China Grove’s 10U baseball team won 16-0 against Porter Ridge and plays Sunday at 5 p.m.
