Rowan County authorities charged a teen with molesting a young girl, and officials say the abuse may have been going on since the child was 5 or 6 years old.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged William Hunter Evans, 16, with first-degree statutory sex offense and one count misdemeanor indecent liberties between children.
Officials said Evans inappropriately touched a relative and the abuse had been ongoing. The victim, who is now 11 years old, reported the abuse to a teacher.

• Officials chased a suspect on foot Wednesday while serving a warrant in the 1300 block of Park Avenue.
• A man reported Wednesday his credit card was used to purchase items online in the 800 block of Emanuel Church Road, Rockwell.
• Trading Ford Baptist Church reported Wednesday a larceny from the building in the 3600 block of Long Ferry Road.
• A woman reported Wednesday a laptop was stolen from a home in the Enochville.
• A man reported a Thursday a burglary occurred sometime between June 15 and June 21 in the 100 block of Susan Lane.
• A man reported Thursday an attempted burglary in the 1200 block of Elizabeth Avenue, Kannapolis.
• A woman reported Thursday a simple assault in the 200 block of Kings Terrace.
• A woman reported Thursday a larceny occurred sometime between July 2 and Thursday in the 600 block of Playground Lane.
• A man reported Thursday a vandalism in the 1100 block of Cannon Farm Road, China Grove.
• A man reported Thursday a larceny in the 200 block of William Drive.
• A man reported Thursday a larceny from a vehicle in the 800 block of N.C. 152, China Grove.
• Ashley Duane Hyman, 35, was charged Tuesday with assault on a female in the 700 block of Bradshaw Road, Mount Ulla.
• Kimberly Jean Arrington, 26, was charged Tuesday with violation of valid protective order in the 200 block of North Main Street.
• Jennifer Karen Whisenant, 47, was charged with violation of probation in the 200 block of North Main Street.
• Shena Makeeba Black, 23, was charged Tuesday with obtaining property by false pretenses in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Jail.
• David Venson Freeman, 58, was charged Tuesday with habitual impaired driving in the 200 block of North Main Street.
• Paul Leveren Davis, 33, was charged Tuesday with habitual felon in the 100 block of Knoll View Drive.
• Elizabeth Britt Poole, 28, was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor simple assault in the 1300 block of Gracebrook Drive.
• Michael Shane Kirk, 34, was charged Wednesday with felony acting as a notary not commissioned at the Rowan County Courthouse.
• Jeffery Jerome Stover, 51, was charged Thursday with misdemeanor simple assault in the 200 block of North Main Street.
• George Alan Redding, 22, was charged Thursday with felony breaking and entering a building at the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office.
• Steven Kyle Pennington, 22, was charged Thursday with felony breaking and entering a building at the Rowan County Courthouse.
• Joshua Kittle, 17, was charged Thursday with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance schedule VI in the 100 block of North Main Street.
• Christopher Taylor Morris, 34, was charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering into a building at U.S. 153 and Mount Moriah Church Road, China Grove.
• Lathan Cody Sisk, 21, was charged Friday with misdemeanor burning or destroying crops in the field at the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office.
• Joseph Michael Doniaz, 28, was charged Friday with felony obtaining property by false pretenses at the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office.
