Police believe someone ditched a “one-pot” meth lab behind a local supermarket because the lab got out of hand.
A delivery man found an Adidas backpack with smoke coming from it near the Food Lion loading dock at 525 W. Jake Alexander Blvd. around 3 p.m. Monday.
He sprayed the bag with a fire extinguisher, said Police Capt. Shelia Lingle.
Someone called police, who said the bag contained salt, lye, Drano, Sudafed and other ingredients used to make methamphetamines.
Lingle said investigators believe whoever created the meth was either walking or driving near the store when the bag started smoking. They tossed the bag and took off, she said.
The SBI was called in, as well as two Salisbury Police officers who are certified to properly package the meth and remove it from the scene.
