China Grove teens charged with stealing bank cards, puppies in weekend break-ins

Two China Grove teenagers face multiple charges connected to a string of alleged thefts on Friday and Saturday.
Darryl Liston Atwell, 17, of West N.C. 152, and Christopher Adam Huffman, 17, of N.C. Highway 153, were both being held on $55,000 bond in the Rowan County Detention Center as of Sunday night.
According to arrest reports, the incidents occurred in China Grove on July 25 and 26 when Atwell and Huffman allegedly broke into five vehicles and at least one building to steal various items, including two Labrador retriever puppies.
In all, Atwell faces six counts of felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle, six counts of misdemeanor larceny, two counts of felony financial card theft, one count of simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance and two felony charges of larceny of a dog.
Huffman is charged with eight counts of felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle, seven counts of misdemeanor larceny, one count of felony breaking and entering and two counts of financial card theft.
Atwell’s first appearance in court is scheduled for Tuesday. Huffman was scheduled to appear in court this morning.
