For 11 years, Helen Brown has dedicated her time to improving awareness of cystic fibrosis by holding a yard sale fundraiser.
Brown will have many items available at the sale including household furniture, vintage glassware, vinyl recordings, camping equipment, nursery items, tools, electronics, and an old Masonic ceremonial sword.
“I am so thankful for the support that I receive from the community. This sale could not happen without the 25 amazing volunteers that assist me on the days of the sale,” Brown said.
The fundraiser began as a way to provide help to Brown’s two grandchildren who suffer from cystic fibrosis.
The sales have helped raise more than $151,000 for cystic fibrosis research.
“I have seen advances in research and technology that have allowed my grandchildren to attend their colleges of choice without having to worry about their disease,” Brown said.
The biannual yard sale fundraiser will be Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1621 Emerald St. To accommodate for the sale, Emerald Street will be a one-way street with entrance from Mahaley Avenue.
In appreciation for the support the sale has received, there will be a drawing for a Bob Timberlake print. Each attendee receives one free ticket. The drawing will be held on Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. Registrants do not need to be present to win.
Megan Braun is a senior at North Rowan High School and a Salisbury Post intern.
