A Dick’s Sporting Goods and Hobby Lobby apparently will be anchors in a new shopping development in Salisbury.

At a Rowan County Planning Board meeting Monday, the board voted to recommend approval to the county Board of Commissioners of a planned development at the Summit Corporate Center south of Interstate 85 along Julian Road. Plans call for the development to have 151,500 square feet of retail space.

Documents filed with the Register of Deeds office show the firm that will own the development, Hutton Growth One LLC, of Tennessee, has a lease agreement with Dick’s Sporting Goods for space at the site. Dick’s would locate in 35,000 square feet of space at the center, according to the lease, which calls the development Shoppes at Summit Park.

A partial site plan for the shopping center on the website of Providence Group, the Charlotte-based firm marketing the development, shows a Hobby Lobby in a 55,000-square-foot space next to Dick’s Sporting Goods. The site plan does not name any other specific stores.

There will be five other spaces available at the site for retail tenants, according the flier. The development will also include a second phase.

George Alexandris, vice president of development for the Hutton Company, said he could not give specific details about any retailers planning to locate in the center. He did say the two anchor tenants have been secured.

He said plans are to have a “healthy variety” of retail stores and restaurants in the complex.

Work at the site should begin in December, he said.

The Hutton Company, based in Chattanooga, has done work in Salisbury before, it was behind the Belk and Walllace Commons expansion off Klumac Road. After completing that, Hutton secured an option on land in the county-owned corporate park.

Alexandris said the company looks to “gravitate to locations that have individuals who are forward thinking and like making things happen.”
