Mt. Zion holds Thanksgiving service

Word of Life Thanksgiving service

Everyone is invited to attend the annual Thanksgiving Day Service at Word of Life Family Worship Center, 726 E. Liberty St. Dr. Martha Starks, pastor, will give special words of encouragement and reflect on all the reasons to be thankful. The service is from 11 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.

 

Community service to be held in Landis

LANDIS- — The Landis Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church Sunday evening at 7 p.m. Participating churches are: First Reformed, First United Methodist, Grace Baptist; Landis First Assembly of God, Mount Moriah Lutheran; New Piney Grove Baptist, Sandy Ridge AME Zion, and Trinity Lutheran. Pastor Jerrod Lanning will bring the evening message.

An offering will be taken for the Main Street Mission in China Grove. A reception will follow the service.

 

Sunday is Trustee Day at Jerusalem Baptist 

SPENCER — Jerusalem Baptist Church, 570 N. Long St. Extension, is celebrating Deacon, Deaconess and Trustee Day Sunday during the regular 11 a.m. service. The guest speaker is the Rev. Charles Eric Susong.

Susong, a native of Salisbury, is a graduate of both Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and Fayetteville Technical College. He is the office manager at Clark Funeral Home in Kannapolis and serves as assistant pastor at Mount Calvary Holy Church.

All members of each auxiliary are asked to wear their proper attire. The Rev. Dr. David Bracken is pastor.

 

Fairview Heights to honor pastor

Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 704 Old Concord Road, will hold its pre-pastoral anniversary service on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The program will consist of the Four Full Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The speakers are Dr. Willie Mae Abel of Jerusalem Baptist Church, East Spencer, Min. Bakinna Medley of Shady Grove Church, Cleveland, Min.Annita Phillips of Tower of Power Holiness Church, Salisbury and Min. Dianne Williams of Cedar Grove Church, Cleveland. Each speaker will speak 10 minutes. The host pastor is the Rev. Clarence Marlin.

 

Lighted Christmas Ball Workshop

On Saturday Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. is the fifth annual Salisbury Christmas Ball Workshop, to be held in the Fellowship Hall at John Calvin Presbyter ian Church, 1620 Brenner Ave. The lighted Christmas balls are easily made and are designed to bring Christmas cheer to local neighborhoods. Pictures of the balls illuminating neighborhoods can be seen at Lighted Christmas Ball Blog.

For each ball you wish to make, please bring 200 mini-lights. All other materials will be supplied by JCPC. Also bring a donation of canned food to donate to Rowan Helping Ministries. In 2013, over 10,000 pounds of food was collected in North Carolina to support area food banks.

 

Brothers Redeemed to sing at Community

A concert by the Brothers Redeemed Quartet, the Southern Gospel group from Hickory, will be presented Sunday at 6 p.m. at Community Baptist Church, 18 Carolina St. A love offering will be taken up.

 

44th anniversary at Neel Road Baptist

Neel Road Baptist Church, 135 Neel Road, will celebrate its 44 year anniversary with a Homecoming Day on Nov. 23. The worship service, led by the Rev. David Burgess, will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by a covered dish meal and a presentation of the life of the church.

Special guest will be the Rev. Howard Pless who was the first senior pastor at Neel Road Baptist Church. There will be no Sunday School classes or evening Bible Study.

 

WWLTC resumes local services on Sunday

Whosoever Will Let Them Come Ministries (WWLTC) has returned from having services out-of-town last week and will resume services this Sunday. In addition, the ministry will host its pastoral appreciation services for Bishop Chris F. and Pastor Patricia A. Brown for their  seven years as shepherds.

The Helping Hands Ministry Matron Stewardship service will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Hall’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, 611 E. Monroe St., with pastor Elder Richard Johnson. Guest speaker is pastor Cathy White of Bethel Power of Faith Ministry.

Mount Zion UCC honors church women

CHINA GROVE – During the 11 a.m. service Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, 1415 S. Main St., will continue its long tradition of honoring the women of the  church family. Among those sharing in this Thanksgiving service will be Shelly Hunter and Becky Leinbach. Members and friends are reminded to bring a fruit offering for the altar. After worship the Mt. Zion Youth Fellowship will deliver a Thanksgiving fruit bag to many of the homebound and shut in church family.

First UCC service prepares for Advent

First United Church of Christ, 207 W. Horah St., will celebrate the Reign of Christ on Sunday at the 11 a.m. service. It is a Sunday that marks the end of Ordinary Time and sets up for the next season of Advent that follows, and is the end of our church year.

Reign of Christ Sunday was established in 1925 by decree of Pope Pius XI and originally took place on the last Sunday in October, just prior to All Saints’ Day. Now it is celebrated on the last Sunday of the Christian year, a week before the season of Advent begins. This will be a day to celebrate and give thanks to God for the great gift of Jesus who lived and died and who will come again to reign in glory.

With a service of thanks and praise to God the Chancel Choir under the direction of Matthew Newton will sing “Here I Am Lord” by Craig Courtney. Susan Trivette is organist.

The Edwards Family in concert on Friday 

The Edwards family will be in concert Friday Nov. 28, during the Holiday Night Out in Dowtown Salisbury.

Resurrection Life Church, located in Downtown Salisbury at 216 S. Main St., will host the live concert that begins at 7 p.m. Bluegrass, gospel and Christmas songs of the season will be part of the evening concert.

On Saturday, Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. there will be a Gospel Celebration at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church featuring The Heavenly Voices of Concord, Trinity Three of Mooresville, The Men of God of Kannapolis, Comedian and playwright Teresa Phelps, the Male Chorus of Gethsemane and The Mighty Heavenly Aires of Salisbury.

WWA missionary event at Sandy Ridge

LANDIS— The Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church Lay Council presents Western West Africa Day with Family and Friends. The Rev. Clarence J. Shuford Jr. is host pastor.

The service is Sunday, Nov. 30, at 10 a.m. and the Rt. Rev. Seth O. Lartey, Presiding Bishop, WWA is speaker, along with Jaqueline I. Williams-Lartey, missionary supervisor, North Ghana, West Ghana, Mid-Ghana, Liberia, East Ghana, Cote D’ivoire, And Togo.

“Catch The Vision” is about education, evangelism, expansion, economic growth and empowerment and  health care.
