Lori Yang: Why adopt?

We always talked about adopting when we were a couple. Then, after having the kids that we have, it only confirmed that this is something we should do. Our kids probably sealed the deal because I could see how much they had to offer to a child without a family.
And they didn’t fail me … love, kindness, compassion, sharing. They are the true gift for Luke. I knew any child would be lucky to have John and Alex as big brothers and Ellen and Ashley as big sisters. We’ve been blessed with so much, and it only seemed right to share that with a child who has nothing. Fortunately, we have the family dynamics to have a child come in and be accepted as our own.
I think Michael’s passing was a part of the decision for me, too. I wanted to do for God what He has done for me. I wanted one of God’s children to feel the love here on earth that I know God is showing my son in Heaven. I know Michael was a part of our bringing Luke into our family. I have a definite peace about it all.
If you’ve ever thought of adopting, please consider. This adoption has opened our eyes to a beauty and a joy that we never could have imagined! Watching our family grow in love in this way is truly amazing and more fulfilling than any material things you could ever own or put your hands on. The material things may bring you happiness, but only temporarily. To change a life, and have that life change yours, brings you happiness and an everlasting joy for a lifetime and beyond.
Everyone keeps telling us that Luke is a lucky little boy, but honestly I feel like we are the lucky ones!
