A California man is in jail and nearly 50 pounds of marijuana are in the hands of Iredell County deputies in an ongoing drug investigation.
Takaaki Ishibashi, whose address is 1729 Santee Street, Los Angeles, was arrested Friday and will be charged with trafficking marijuana and conspiracy to traffic marijuana at the conclusion of a drug investigation, according to a news release. On Friday, Ishibashi was booked into the Cabarrus County Jail and placed under a $2 million bond.
Ishibashi’s arrest comes after Iredell County Sheriff’s Office investigators and Mooresville Police officers followed Ishibashi to two different storage units — one in Mooresville and another in Concord. Officers stopped Ishibashi, searched his vehicle and found 31 pounds of marijuana along with keys to storage units in Pineville, Cornelius, Huntersville, Kannapolis and Concord, the news release stated.
An additional 15 pounds of marijuana was seized by law enforcement when two packages addressed to a Nathan Yong were intercepted, theto the news release said. The packages were intended for a storage unit in Mooresville. When officers searched the Mooresville storage unit, they seized an additional 3.5 pounds of marijuana.
Law enforcement officers later determined that Yong was an alias being used by Ishibashi.
The case is still under investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, Mooresville Police Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the news release stated.
