Man jailed after hit and run

A China Grove man is spending time in the Rowan County Detention Center after being involved in a hit and run.

Michael Twain Thomas, 20, of 210 Mandolin Street in China Grove, was charged with felony hit-and-run causing serious injury or death and misdemeanor resisting a public officer.

He left the scene of a vehicle collision which caused personal injury to Russell Oliver, then gave false information to a sheriff’s department sergeant.

He’s being held at Rowan County Detention Center, under a $25,000 bond.

 

Woman cashes unauthorized check

A China Grove woman is facing forgery charges after writing and cashing a check from someone else’s checkbook.

Alesia Danielle Franklin, 26, of the 600 block of Corriher Gravel in China Grove is charged with felony forgery of instrument and felony uttering a forged instrument, as well as misdemeanor resisting arrest and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Franklin forged and cashed an F&M Bank check, then provided a false name to a sheriff’s deputy at a traffic stop. The deputy also found a small metal container with white powder in it.

 

Teen charged with shooting gun in city limits

A Salisbury teen is facing charges after he fired a gun in Spencer.

Austin Coy Coleman, 17, of the 300 block of West 14th Street, pointed a .25 caliber handgun at a woman, and then shot the firearm within Spencer’s town limits.

The teen was charged with misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun, misdemeanor discharge firearm in city and misdemeanor possession of a handgun by a minor.

Coleman was issued a $5,000 bond.

 

Homeless man charged with stealing beer, clothing and other items from Walmart

A homeless man is in the Rowan County Detention Center after stealing skillets, clothing, a flashlight, batteries and beer from Walmart.

Justin Lynn Laturno, 21, is charged with misdemeanor larceny, simple possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

He was placed in jail with a $1,000 bond.
