SALISBURY — The Hornets got three double-digit efforts Tuesday in a 62-36 victory over the Green Dragons. Breya Philpott scored a team-high 15 points while Katy Wolfe and Maria Capito contributed 12 points apiece.
Salisbury got off to a solid start against West Davidson. The Hornets (5-18, 3-6 CCC) opened the game with a 6-0 run. A free throw by Olivia Sharpe cut the lead to 8-7 with 2 minutes, 53 seconds left in the first quarter.
Capito picked up an and-one with less than a minute left in the period, and the Hornets got the cushion they needed. That play by Capito sparked a 17-2 run that covered the end of the first quarter and the first six minutes of the second. Eight of those points came from the free-throw line.
A layup by Julia Honeycutt off a thread-the-needle pass from Bryanna Caldwell and a 3-pointer from Wolfe made it 25-9 at the 2:53 mark in the second quarter.
Salisbury went to the locker room ahead 27-15. It never trailed at any point in the game.

Salisbury, however, had a 7-2 run over the last two minutes of the quarter. A putback layup by Tyzarea Alexander with nine seconds left off a missed 3-pointer by Capito pushed Salisbury’s lead to 40-29 at the end of the quarter.
