Authorities are trying to determine what happened between a Salisbury woman and her 14-year-old son after both claim they were assaulted by the other.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Zenia Donite Foreman, 41, of the 3700 block of Old Concord Road, with misdemeanor child abuse.
Officials said the incident occurred Thursday and the Rowan Department of Social Services had to become involved. Foreman was issued a $500 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center.
Foreman told authorities her son assaulted her. She told a deputy her son was upset when she cut his hair. She disciplined him by removing items from his room. He became irate and hit her.
He told authorities his mother took his things out of his room and he asked if he could keep his clothes and school-issued laptop.
The teen told a deputy his mother pushed him against a wall and choked him.
Officials said the teen’s estranged father told them he was attempting to gain custody of the teen.
