Police say thieves stole a vehicle parked at at a convenience store early Tuesday.
A Salisbury man, Terrence Phifer, parked his Chevrolet Impala around 2:45 a.m. at the Citgo, 1831 W. Innes St., officials said, with the door unlocked and the key still in the ignition.
He exited his vehicle and was inside the store about two minutes when the clerk told him two guys were running toward his car. The clerk told Phifer the men had been there about five to 10 minutes before he arrived at the gas station. The clerk said one man even came inside the store.
Phifer ran out of the store just as the men were taking off in his vehicle, followed by the burgundy Chevrolet Lumina they were originally inside. He said his iPhone 6, debit card and $50 was in the car.
A trooper found Phifer’s Impala around 4:20 a.m. wrecked under an overpass near Jamestown. Phifer had tracked his iPhone to the same area, but it was never recovered.
