Cooleemee’s annual Shamrock BBQ will be Saturday, March 21, starting at noon.
It will be at the Zachary House grounds at 131 Church St. in Cooleemee and feature Walt Ferrell’s BBQ. Along with food and fellowship, there will be a kite flying contest at 1 p.m., wind permitting. You can get the kite there or bring your own.
Proceeds from the event will go toward upkeep on Cooleemee’s three heritage museums, the Textile Heritage Center Museum, the Mill House Museum and the smallest museum in North Carolina, the Fire Fighters Museum. BBQ sandwiches are $3; a plate is $6.
The museums are a part of Discovering Our Heritage Kids Program, which offers something for kids kindergarten through fifth grade. Museum hours are Wednesday–Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. To schedule a group tour, call at least two weeks in advance at 336-284-6040.
