Police say a Charlotte man was taken to the hospital this afternoon following a drive-by shooting at North Shaver Street near Park Avenue.
Cordera Rayshard Brown, 27, was shot and received help from residents at 512 Park Ave., who took him by private car to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. The shooting occurred at 12:35 p.m. Brown was treated at Novant and transferred by ambulance to Carolinas Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time.
Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said Brown was with a woman and both walked to the Park Avenue house to ask for help. Someone at the home called police. No vehicle description is being released at this time until police gather further information. Police investigators are interviewing witnesses, but have few details to release at this time.
Lingle said Brown is from Salisbury but currently lives in Charlotte.
She said the shooting was not a random crime and the victim and the suspect argued before the shooting occurred.
In October, Brown, then 26 and living on Franklin Street, was arrested on drug possession charges and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Warrants said the alleged incident occurred when Brown left the scene of an assault investigation. Warrants also said he was found with rolling papers containing a green, leafy, vegetable substance and a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun. He was charged in that incident with possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed gun, simple possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, resisting a public officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. Warrants said the alleged offense occurred when Brown fled the scene of an assault investigation.
Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245. These calls can be made anonymously.
It was the second shooting in five days.
