The China Grove Cotton Mills Company was formed in 1920 and operated in China Grove at its location on Thom Street in China Grove until it merged with Dixie Yarns in 1986. During its 66 year history, it was a leading producer of knitting and weaving yarns and by the 1960’s a producer of quality combed sales yarn for the sewing thread industry.  A residential and business community grew up around the mill as well.
