Spencer’s Board of Aldermen meeting Tuesday will include a public hearing regarding a proposed museum near the former Color-Tex site.

Gary Hauze, a retired pastor, wants to build a museum dedicated to the region’s history on about 3 acres of land off U.S. 29 across the street from Yadkin United Church and adjacent to the demolished textile mill.

Hauze and his partner in the plans, Sherrell Hedrick, have purchased the land through the Yadkin Historical Museum Foundation.

The area is zoned for industrial use, and last month the town’s planning board recommended allowing “museum” as a permitted use for industrial zones. The Board of Aldermen  also needs to approve the measure.

The board meets at 7 p.m.

The board will also discuss setting a date for an open house regarding a proposed stormwater utility for the town. The date recommended by the town’s staff is May 13 at 6 p.m.

The stormwater utility has been a topic of discussion in Spencer for years, and the board currently has a pending ordinance that would establish the utility.

The utility would be funded by property owners.

In other business Tuesday, the board will:

• Hold a public hearing regarding an amendment to the town’s ordinance for its Community Appearance Commission. The amendment would place the ordinance within the town’s zoning ordinance and make the language briefer.

• Hear an update from RowanWorks Executive Director Robert Van Geons.
