Police charged two teens in a weekend Mitchell Avenue break-in after a neighbor reported seeing them carrying away a 42-inch television.
The incident occurred after 4 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of Mitchell Avenue when someone saw two suspicious males walk behind the house and then carry out the TV. The two, later determined to be a 15-year-old and 14-year-old, were seen by police walking with the TV on Lincolnton Road.
Around the same time, a 911 caller said they arrived home and their television, son’s Xbox and controller as well as his back pack, $20 in cash, and a school-issued iPad were missing. By the time the police caught up to the teens, the television was gone.
Both were charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession, all of which are felonies.
Police Capt. Shelia Lingle credits the neighbor who saw the teens break into the house with helping law enforcement catch them.
This is the second break-in in the past few days where a neighbor called in with information that led to an arrest.
