Police responded to a disturbance call and say a local man was charged with marijuana possession subsequent to a short foot chase.
Salisbury Police charged Tyree Elijawon Badger, 22, of the 300 block of Ferndale Drive, Salisbury, with misdemeanor resist, delay, obstruct an officer, felony marijuana possession, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor second-degree trespassing.
The incident occurred Saturday morning at Brookview Apartments, 711 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., when an officer approached Badger and two other males. The men took off and police chased Badger to a wooded area near House of Prayer at Old Concord Road and South Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
Badger was arrested and searched. Officers found two bags of marijuana on him, $180 in cash and digital scales. Police say they had to take Badger to the hospital because he seemed under the influence of some type of substance and seemed “out of it” said Police Capt. Shelia Lingle.
Hospital personnel checked Badger and released him a short time later. Badger remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $7,500 secured bond.
A few weeks ago, police responded to DJs restaurant after Badger and another man initially skipped out on the check, which was less than $20. The other man agreed to pay the bill and while waiting with police, officers say Badger was uncooperative and eventually took off. He was caught a short time later when he circled back to the restaurant and was met by employees in the back of the restaurant.
He was charged in January during a warrantless search at a Cherry Street home. Badger and another man, Omari Badger, were inside. Police found items in the home that were reported stolen in 2011, also marijuana, digital scales, a handgun and $965 in cash.
