From staff reports
West Rowan won an outright conference championship in baseball for the first time since 2004 by beating Cox Mill 5-2 on Tuesday.
West Rowan shared the conference title in 2006.
“This is pretty enjoyable,” first-year coach Seth Graham said. “We haven’t had a ton of offense this year, but we’ve had pitching and defense, and that’s what you’d choose.”
Juan Garcia hit a two-run homer for the Falcons. Kacey Otto delivered a key hit. Omar Bautista (7-1) pitched a complete game.
The Falcons have won eight in a row.
• East Rowan won 5-4 in 10 innings against Central Cabarrus.

The Hornets scored single runs in the first and second and held on to hand the Green Dragons only their second loss of the season and their first CCC setback.

West Davidson scored in the sixth when Daulton Anderson doubled and came around on Jacob Gobble’s single.
West Davidson threatened in the seventh, but the Hornets got out of the jam with a trick play. Myers stepped off the rubber and faked a throw to second base as infieldes reacted as if the ball had been thrown.
As a runner strayed off base looking for the ball, Myers went over and tagged the runner out.
“Riley pitched an outstanding game and defensively we backed him up well,” Salisbury coach Scott Maddox said. “Zack Bates made several outstanding defensively plays that really changed the game.”
