Shatoddra Curry, born and raised in Salisbury to Rachel Annette Curry and Anthony “Tony” McFadden on March 2, 1992, is a 2011 alumna of North Rowan High School. She is a spring 2015 graduate of North Carolina Central University, obtaining her degree in Criminal Justice with concentration in Law Enforcement. Ms. Curry has been on the dean’s list since beginning her journey at NCCU in the fall of 2011.
She has remained active on her college campus and given back to her Durham community. She is also a proud and active member of the Alpha Kappa sorority. Shatoddra hopes to pursue a career in police work, working her way up to becoming a homicide detective.
Ms. Curry sends out a special thank you to her mother, Rachel Curry, who has done everything to ensure her academic success, pushing her to be better, and always being a great mother. She would like to thank her stepfather, Tony Jones, for always being there when she needed him and being a father figure in her life. She also sends out a special thank you to her grandmother, Mary Rippy, who sent constant motivational messages to help her stay focused. She also thanks her Uncle Thomas Rippy for being a positive male influence in her life and ensuring that she puts academics first, always being there when she needed him.
Her last message is for her late great-grandmother, Lizzie Hyde (1931-2012), who she promised on her last days to go to college … and finish. “I love you, I miss you and I know you are smiling over me on this very special day. Rest in Peace. Your Great-granddaughter.”
I love you all!
