The Salisbury Police Department has installed a medication-disposal box in the lobby of the Police Department, located at 130 East Liberty Street. The box is available for public use between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Most types of prescription medications may be disposed of in the box. There are some items, such as liquid medications and syringes, that are not safe for placement into the box and cannot be accepted. A complete listing of prohibited items is provided at the drop site in the Police Department lobby.
The department recently received a grant from CVS Pharmacy that allowed for the placement of the box.
The Police Department has, for many years, participated in the nationally recognized Operation Medicine Cabinet events. During these organized events, citizens have delivered hundreds of pounds of unused medications, which were collected and subsequently destroyed pursuant to DEA approved guidelines. The new box will allow for the safe and proper disposal of medications on a consistent basis, rather than having to wait for the next project. The Police Department will routinely remove medications from the box. Medications are logged before being destroyed.
