• Tonight: Humane Society of Rowan County’s annual Lights of Love Luminaria Display around the City Lake, Club Drive, dusk – 9:30 p.m.  in honor and in memory of loved ones, pets or people. Proceeds go toward veterinary expenses for sick or injured stray and abandoned animals acquired by the Humane Society of Rowan County, a non-profit volunteer organization.

• Solid Rock Church of God prayer breakfast, Saturday, 9 a.m., 1004 Locke St., speaker Gladys Forte of The Park Church, Charlotte; music by Praise in Abundance. Sponsored by The Women’s Ministry of Solid Rock Church of God.

• Playground Community Day of Fun, Saturday noon-2 p.m. at Geneva I. Oglesby Community Center, 633 Dunns Mountain Road, Granite Quarry, with games, deejay and food. Those attending are asked to bring school supplies and back packs. Sponsored byAlpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

• Eighth District Democratic County Convention, Saturday May 16, 10:30 a.m., at the new Rockingham Courthouse, 105 W. Franklin St. Rockingham. Registration  9:30-10:30 a.m.

• Ladies of Eloganze planning anniversary event June 13 at Harold B. Jarrett Legion Post, starting at 9 p.m. BYOB. Music and food avaiilable. More details to come.
