Great temperatures helped runners achieve some fast times on Saturday morning at the 14th Annual Bare Bones 5K. Runners and walkers cruised the mostly flat course in the race that benefited Relay for Life and recognized other groups in Salisbury. The race honors those who served in the military, Salisbury Police and Fire departments, and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. Used running shoes were collected for Rowan Helping Ministries.

Garrett Ingold easily led the field with a time of 17 minutes and 8 seconds. He was followed by Jonathan Martin in second place at 17:33 and Joshua Hedrick in 17:55 for third.

Jennifer Cayer led the women with a time of 21 minutes and 19 seconds. Acquawon Stallworth was second in 22:19 and Nicole Aswell followed in third at 22:27.

Sawyer Burton won the half-mile fun run in 3 minutes and 59 seconds followed by Teagan Burke in 4 minutes and 40 seconds.

The Salisbury Rowan Runners owns the event and Bare Bones is sponsored by Novant Health, the City of Salisbury and Cheerwine. Participants received unique recycled Dri-fit shirts and awards in order to make a larger contribution to Relay for Life.

SRR Beginning Runners spring graduates ran their first official 5K race at Bare Bones. Dr. Bonnie Michael led a group of seven graduates. Michael placed first in the women’s 40-44 age group with a time of 28:31.
