Family and Friends at Cedar Grove
CLEVELAND — Family and Friends Service at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, on Saturday, May 30 at 6 p.m. Rev. LaJune Gray, associate pastor of Freedom United Church, Woodleaf will be the guest speaker. Also the Children and Youth Black History Choir under the direction of Angela Harding-Ellis and Jeremy Kirkpatrick of Kannapolis will be in concert. Everyone is welcome. Rev. Guiding Light fifth Sunday services
EAST SPENCER — The Guiding Light Missionary Baptist Association will conduct Fifth Sunday services on Sunday at the Guiding Light Convention Center, located at 308 Boundary St. The guest speaker at the 11 a.m. service will be the Rev. Paul Mosley. Hot dog dinners will be available following the morning service for $5. The host is the Rev. John E. Jones, moderator.
Memorial Day observed at First UCC
At the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, First United Church of Christ will celebrate Memorial Day by remembering and honoring those who gave their lives fighting for our freedom. As we honor the sacrifice given, the congregation will join together in a Litany of Remembrance, poetry reading and lighting of candles in memory of those fallen in service to their country. First United Church of Christ is located in the Historic District of Salisbury at 207 W. Horah St. The Rev. Carol Hallman is the Resident Minister.
Bethel Evangelical holds benefit meal for Scott Young
Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold a benefit fundraiser meal on Sunday at noon at 355 E. Ridge Road. The meal will include a salad and potato bar, drinks, and desserts, all for a donation only. This fundraiser is sponsored by Bethel and supplemented by the East Rowan Chapter of Thrivent. All proceeds go to cover the medical expenses for Scott Young, West Rowan High School football coach, who is awaiting a heart transplant.
Deacons Alliance to host singing fundraiser
GRANITE QUARRY — The Rowan and Davie County Deacons Alliance will host its annual Gospel Singing Extravaganza on Sunday at 4 p.m. It will be held at the New Zion Baptist Church in Granite Quarry. Church choirs and praise dancers are invited to participate. All proceeds will be donated to the homeless shelter and others in need.

Fundraiser for Turner scholarship fund
KANNAPOLIS — On Sunday at 6 p.m. Trinity United Methodist Church (across from A.L. Brown High School) will hold a Parade of Tables fundraiser for the Mildred Payne Turner Scholarship fund for the church’s pre-K, the oldest preschool in Kannapolis. Mildred Turner, who will be in attendance at Sunday’s dinner, started it 52 years ago as a kindergarten. When public school began to offer kindergarten to every child, the school at Trinity became a preschool. One of the kindergarteners of the first class here at Trinity (52 years ago) is now one of the teachers of the Pre-K. She will also be in attendance on Sunday.

Kingdom Kids preschool open house
KANNAPOLIS – Blackwelder Park Baptist’s Kingdom Kids will open its doors on June 6, to allow parents, students, and the community to see the facility and meet its newly named director.
The preschool, which will reopen this fall, will have classes for children ages 2-4.
The open house will be held in conjunction with the church’s annual Spring Festival, so the day will include games, food and fun for the whole family.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Games and activities will be set up in front of the Kingdom Kids building, which faces Main Street.
Registration is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon at the facility just off Main St. in Kannapolis. The non-refundable registration fee is $75 per child.
