June Notables
We have now officially entered the summer period. I hope you all had a great Memorial Day holiday. Here are some things to put on your calendars so you can plan to include them in your schedules. Locally, I plan to have several special games giving higher than normal match points. For the Friday Evergreen game there will be on June 5 a championship game and on June 19 a Junior Fund game. For the Tuesday Women’s Club game on June 9 we will have a charity game and on June 30 a club championship game.
Area tournaments include sectionals June 5 -7 at Southern Pines, and one in Flat Rock June 25-28. Greenville, S.C. will host a regional tournament June 8-14. These are great opportunities for those of you who have caught the “tournament bug.” See the ACBL website for specifics.
Unit #169 is holding unit games Saturday, June 6 at the Cathedral of Glory in Greensboro and June 20 at the Georgia Taylor Recreation center in Winston-Salem. All are at 1 p.m.
Our Evergreen May 22 Mitchell game winners were: N/S First, Harold and Carol Winecoff; second, Pat Featherston and Dick Brisbin; third, Marie Pugh and Ruth Bowles; E/W First, Maureen Busse and Loyd Hill; second, Judy Hurder and Stella Shadroui; third, Andra Cozart and Jan Glover.

The best N/S score was made by Pat Macon and Judy Gealy defeating 5DE 2 tricks, and the best E/W score was 3NE+1 by Chuck and Margaret Rimer. At our table, North opened with a pre-empt 2S, with South bidding 3H making a NT bid East/West nearly impossible because of E/W holdings. It was remarkable that no one was in Clubs. Bidding was tricky.
Winners at the Women’s Club Tuesday, May 26 game were: First, Marie Pugh and Loyd Hill; second, Wade Lowder and Georgia Sorensen; third, Wayne Pegram and Judy Hurder; fourth, Pat Macon and Myrnie McLaughlin
