The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office 2015 Leadership Camp is free for boys and girls who live in Rowan County and have completed the fifth, sixth, or seventh grade.
The camp provides a very meaningful experience and relationship with other campers throughout the county. Sheriff’s Office personnel will serve as counselors and instructors at the camp.
The program is the sheriff’s way of giving back to the kids of our community who are motivated to have successful futures and become productive citizens.
The annual Rowan County Sheriffs Office Youth Leadership Camp will consist of three sessions.
The first will be July 6-10 at First Baptist Church, 222 N. Fulton St. in Salisbury. The camp runs from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day.
The second session will be at Southeast Middle School, 1570 Peeler Road in Salisbury, July 20-24 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Mount Zion United Church of Christ will host the third session Aug. 10-14. The church is located at 1415 S. Main St. in China Grove. The camp will be from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
A variety of fun and competitive games will be played, with teams winning prizes. Off-site trips may include swimming, bowling and other fun and interesting places. Enrichment sessions will include Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T) instruction from Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and guest instructors from surrounding counties’ sheriff departments.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Department goals are to provide a fun, safe environment where children can increase their cultural awareness, social skills and peer interaction in a way that teaches each to be a responsible and successful young person.
There are a limited number of openings, and registration is open until the end of June. For more information or to get an application, go to the Sheriff’s Office page on www.rowancountync.gov .
