Area Sports Briefs: Kramer tops Saturday qualifying

Qualifying continued at Corbin Hills on Saturday for the Horace Billings Rowan Amateur golf tournament. Sean Kramer shot 71, the best score for the first two days of qualifying.
Nick Lyerly shot 72 on Friday.
Other top scores on Saturday included: Kevin Lentz (73), Derek Lipe (74), Christopher Queen (76), Andy Lombard (77), Derek Overcash (79), Jason Bernhardt (79), Curt Thomas (79), Mark Marlowe (79) and Joe Cress (79).
Qualifying rounds continue today. The best 31 scores and defending champ Eric Mulkey will compete in match play starting on July 17.
Club at Irish Creek
In the eGolf Tour’s Southern Open, Grayson Murray earned his first pro win on Saturday.
The 21-year-old shot a closing round of 63 and finished 19-under for the tournament.
Salisbury’s Frank Adams III shot 65-67-65-67 — 164 and finished 16-under. Adams tied for fourth and won $4,700.
Carolinas Amateur
In Saturday’s third round of the Carolinas Amateur Championship in Greensboro, Eric Edwards (Salisbury) shot 76.
Edwards made three birdies, eight pars and seven bogeys. Edwards is 2-over for the tournament and tied for 52nd.
Badin
The McCanless Couples travled to Badin Inn & Golf Club on Saturday.
The “Pot of Gold” was won by Sharon Miller.
The first-place team was Ricky Honeycutt, Eileen Full and Gene Seaford.
Closest to the pin winners were Miller on No. 9 and Tim Earnhardt on No. 17.
Mary Seaford won longest putt on No. 6, while Monica Green won longest putt on No. 14.
Tammie Drew made her first hole-in-one on the 110-yard No. 11 hole at Badin with a 5-iron.
The feat was witnessed by Cliff and Eileen Full and Allen Drew.
Junior Legion
West Rowan hosts the Davidson Braves at 7 p.m. on Sunday in the opening game of a third-round playoff series.
Minor leagues
The Kannapolis Intimidators committed four errors and lost 7-4 at Charleston on Saturday.
Kannapolis (8-9 second half, 43-43) will play again in Charleston Sunday. The teams have split four games in a five-game series.
Eddy Alvarez doubled twice for Kannapolis, and Mason Robbins also went 2-for-4.
Kannapolis returns home on Tuesday for a seven-game homestand against Hagerstown and Lakewood.
• Joe Peeler (East Rowan) has pitched well in his last three relief outings in the Arizona League.
The 25th-round pick of the Mariners, Peeler pitched a scoreless inning last Sunday with two strikeouts.
He got four outs on Friday without allowing a baserunner.
• Craig Brooks (Catawba) logged his first pro strikeout on Wednesday for the Cubs rookies in the Arizona League.
• The deadline for draft picks to sign is July 17. Catawba star Will Albertson has not signed with the Yankees and there’s a very good chance he’ll be returning to the Indians next season.
• Jerry Sands (Catawba) is batting .259 with 12 homers and 33 RBIs for Columbus.
