Area Sports Briefs: Hendricks named to All-America team

Livingstone receiver Jalen Hendricks was selected to the BOXTOROW preseason All-America Team.
Hendricks led the Blue Bears with 71 receptions totaling 1,070 yards and was second in the CIAA with 636 yards in punt returns.
He averaged 118.9 yards per game in receptions and scored six touchdowns.
Reigning BOXTOROW Willie Davis Defensive Player of the Year Javon Hargrave (North Rowan, South Carolina State) is also on the preseason team.

China Grove football
China Grove Middle School will begin football practice for all 7th-and-8th grade boys on Friday morning from 9 until noon.
You must have a physical before you can participate in practice.
Bring a copy with you if there is not one already have one on file.
Wear T-shirts, shorts and cleats.

Salisbury boosters
The Salisbury High School Athletic Booster Club meets tonight at 6 p.m. in the media center.

Local golf
The IZOD American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Championship at The Club at Irish Creek, will be held in Kannapolis Aug. 17-20.
The event will showcase the talents of many of the Charlotte area’s top, high school golfers. This is the second year Irish Creek has hosted the AJGA Championship Tournament.
The AJGA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships. The AJGA hosts over 100 tournaments per year a many of the alumni go on to play in the PGA tour.
Hole-in-one
Ben Childress made a hole-in-one at the Country Club of Salisbury on Monday.
Childress aced the 115-yard No. 9 hole with a 7-iron. It was the second career ace for Childress.
He was playing with Charlie Barr, Jeb Bennett, and his brother, Michael Childress.

Youth track and field
The Salisbury Speedsters Elite Track and Field Club, coached by Tim Dunlap and Eric Dalton, participated in the AAU Junior Olympic National Championships in Norfolk, Va.
Jabari Dalton placed sixth in the 200-meter hurdles (25.45) and seventh in the 100 meter hurdles (14.04) for his fourth All-American Honor.
Payton Russell placed fifth in the 400 meter dash (55.91) making her an All-American for the 17th time. She finished 27th in the 200 meter dash (25.24).

Food drive
Cooperative Christian Ministry is excited to announce that it’s partnering with A.L. Brown and Concord high schools to “stuff the buses” in the Battle of the Buses – a canned food drive to take place during the the Battle For the Bell on Aug. 20.
