Few new details were available Tuesday about the Saturday morning homicide of a Salisbury man found shot to death in a Park Avenue neighborhood.

Jonathan Pierre Dillard, 30, was found just before 5 a.m. in a driveway between two homes, one of which was vacant, close to the corner of Park Avenue and North Arlington Street. Emergency personnel were called to 828 Park Ave.

Dillard was already deceased. Neighbors told police they heard possible gunshots several hours before Dillard was found.

Salisbury Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said Dillard lived at the Rowan Helping Ministries shelter, but maintained a job. Shelter personnel said the agency’s policy prevents them from commenting or confirming any client who stays at the shelter.

Police confirmed Dillard was involved in a 2010 domestic incident in Salisbury involving the mother of his child. He was charged in that incident with abducting the couple’s then 4-month-old child following an argument with the mother.

Friends say Dillard, who was known to many as Pierre, worked at Outback Steakhouse, served in the Army and was friendly and outgoing.

Former co-worker Kemi Simpson said Dillard had an “amazing character,” was a team player and always in good spirits. She and Dillard worked together at Olive Garden in Salisbury. Dillard was a bartender at the restaurant, she said.
