Kannapolis man charged with attempted murder

SALISBURY — The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office served a warrant Friday charging a Kannapolis man with attempted murder and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, connected to an incident that happened almost a year ago.
Charged is Gerrell Laquan McRae (also spelled McCrae), 32, of Sumter Avenue in Kannapolis. He is alleged to have threatened Scott Matthew Shoaf of China Grove with a revolver Sept. 22, 2014, while attempting to steal $1,200 in cash from Shoaf.
R.S. Mahaley of the Sheriff’s Office made the arrest Friday. McRae was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under $500,000 bond.
On a lighter note, Deputy C.A. Trexler of the Sheriff’s Office charged Dennis James Hunsucker, 59, of Orphanage Road, Rockwell, with driving while impaired on his bicycle late Saturday morning.
The arrest was made about 11 a.m. in the 5000 block of Bringle Ferry Road near Beagle Club Road. Taylor also charged Hunsucker with communicating threats after he was detained.
