The search for a new town manager for Spencer may soon be under way.
The Spencer Board of Aldermen will hold a meeting in the Spencer Municipal Building on Salisbury Avenue on Tuesday.
On Friday, Alderman Jeff Morris sent an email to his fellow aldermen about his intentions to make a motion during the meeting about beginning the search for a new town manager.
In the email, Morris pointed out that the board has no plan in regards to how to handle Town Manager Larry Smith’s resignation. He wrote that the board would have to decide whether to hire an interim town manager or appoint someone as acting town manager while they search for a replacement.
Morris wrote that the current board should deal with recruiting applicants and allow the new board coming in during December to review the applications and vote on the new town manager.
“It is my view that our board expediently resolve the manner in which applications will be accepted, in compliance with our Equal Employment Opportunity commitment,” Morris stated in an email. “That way, the new board in December can begin a business-like process in selecting and negotiating a contract with Mr. Smith’s successor.”
Later that same day, Smith sent out an email with the International City/County Management Association’s guidelines for selecting a local government administrator to give some direction and answer some questions the board had. He added in the email that the board had complete discretion over how it selects the new town manager.
The board will also discuss adding parking spaces in the Fourth Street and Salisbury Street area and amending the cost of professional services concerning the Stanback Forest Parks and Recreation Trust Fund grant.
