Police have charged a man with impaired driving after they found him asleep at the wheel while parked in the McDonald’s parking lot.

Police responded to a report of two people passed out in the McDonald’s parking lot at the 700 block of East Innes Street on Wednesday.

They found West Virginia resident Jeffery Wayne Cooke, 50, asleep behind the wheel of his running vehicle. On the pavement next to the truck, police also found a woman passed out on the ground, according to the report. Police searched the woman and the vehicle and discovered drug paraphernalia including a pile, marijuana rollers, .7 grams of marijuana, a marijuana roach and 10 clozapine pills.

The woman was transported to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Cooke was charged with impaired driving.
