Attempt to steal beer leads to shootings

Two men were shot on North Shaver Street after fighting a couple who tried to steal their beer Friday night, according to Salisbury Police.
Police found Edward Sifford, 55, on the front porch of a vacant house at 526 N. Shaver St., and Matthew Dwyer, 54 around the corner at 520 E. Cemetery St. Both had gunshot wounds.
The men were taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, where they were being treated Saturday morning.
Salisbury Police had responded at 11:02 p.m. to the report of a shooting. Both victims had been sitting on the porch of the vacant Shaver Street house when they were approached by a man and a woman who tried to steal the men’s beer, police report.
Sifford challenged the man and a fight ensued. When Dwyer tried to intervene, the woman pulled out a handgun and began shooting at both victims, police said.
Both Sifford and Dwyer were hit more than once.
