Law enforcement just released Joshua Meece, but now he’s wanted again by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office in connection with two Friday evening burglaries.
Joshua Lee Meece, 28, was one of two people added Monday to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted List on charges of felony first degree burglary and felony breaking and entering. John Christopher Meece, 23, was also added to the most wanted list Monday for felony breaking and entering.
Charges for both men stem from robberies that occurred on the 1000 and 1400 blocks of Garrick Road, north of Salisbury.
However, Joshua Meece, of the 400 block of Forest Winds Drive in Spencer, was just in police custody on Saturday.
Police arrested Joshua Meece after he was named by Salisbury resident Brandon Eugene Chappelle in connection with a Thursday robbery. Chappelle claimed Joshua Meece threatened violence and demanded money. Chapelle further claimed he was smoking a cigarette behind his apartment on Mitchell Avenue when the incident occurred. Joshua Meece never produced a weapon, according to police reports.
Police found Joshua Meece at Walmart, where he was standing outside of the store and smoking a cigarette. It seemed like a relatively simple case, according to police department spokeswoman Capt. Shelia Lingle. Police charged Joshua Meece with common law robbery and booked him into jail under a $1,000 secured bond.
A few hours later, Chappelle was repeatedly calling the police officer assigned to the case. Lingle said Chappelle told police he was a good Christian and wanted Joshua Meece to be released. It was strange, considering Chappelle had just implicated the man in a robbery, according to Lingle.
The officer assigned to the case kept Chapelle on the phone and asked a few more questions. Chappelle, 25, of the 100 block of Mitchell Avenue in Salisbury, was soon charged with falsifying a police report and booked into jail under a $1,000 bond.
Just like that, Joshua Meece was released from custody on a written promise to appear in court. Several hours after his release, Joshua Meece and two others were wanted again in connection with two incidents that occurred Friday.
Joshua Meece, John Meece and a third person allegedly broke into an 82-year-old’s house on the 1000 block of Garrick Road. The 82-year-old woke up and hid in a bathroom while the suspects stole a television. Sheriff’s deputies linked the trio to a second break-in on the 1400 block of Garrick Road.
Law enforcement officials obtained warrants for the trio on Sunday at 4 p.m.
One of the three — 22-year-old Miranda Gail Waggoner — was arrested Monday on the 600 block of Poole Road in eastern Rowan County. Waggoner was arrested on a charge of felony breaking and entering. She was booked into jail Monday at 9:03 a.m., according to jail records.
Sheriff’s officials haven’t been able to locate Joshua and John Meece. As a result, they were both added to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Most Wanted List.
Both men have criminal records. John Meece’s record includes multiple drug charges and larcenies. Joshua Meece’s record includes assault, breaking and entering, credit card theft and drug charges.
