Two masked men held a clerk and customer at gunpoint Saturday as they robbed The Friendly Food Mart at 727 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.
At around 5:57 p.m. a customer at Friendly Food Mart reported that two African-American men walked into the store wearing masks. He told police he felt something cold on his neck, and was told not to do anything while the robber rifled through the man’s pockets, taking his wallet and cash.
The clerk working at the store at the time reported that another man came around the counter and ordered the clerk to open the register. The man took an undisclosed amount of money from the register and ordered the clerk to empty his pockets. According to the report, the clerk complied and dropped his wallet and keys on the ground. The man then allegedly told the clerk to give him cigarettes, and the clerk told police that he handed over five or six packs.
According to the report, the robbers left and ran through the Brookview apartment complex into the woods.
One of the suspects was reported to be wearing a white shirt, a grey hoodie, black pants and had a mask that covered his mouth and nose. The other was wearing black pants, a red T-shirt, a black hoodie, black shoes and a face mask.
