State treasurer candidate will speak to Rowan Democrats

Ron Elmer, a Democratic candidate for the office of North Carolina Treasurer, will speak Thursday at the monthly meeting to the Rowan Democratic Party.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the Rowan County Administration Building at 130 W. Innes St. in Salisbury.
Elmer, a certified public accountant and a professional money manager, has pledged to save North Carolina taxpayers $100 million by stopping the practice of contracting out the management of the state’s stock portfolio. The state treasurer’s office manages more than $90 billion in investment funds for the state of North Carolina including the State Employee and Teacher Retirement Fund, the State Health Plan and the Local Government Commission
Elmer earned a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma University and a master’s degree in business administration from New York University. Elmer also obtained the following certificates in North Carolina: CFA, CFP, and CPA.
He formerly managed the equity fund as vice president for First Citizens Bank where he managed $2 billion of the stock portfolio of the N.C. Retirement System. He has authored four books about investment management and has taught financial management. Currently he owns his own financial planning company in Cary.
Sam Bridges will also be at the meeting speaking on behalf of Deborah Ross, primary candidate for the U.S. Senate.
