Authorities charged a Salisbury man already wanted for an armed robbery at Village Grocery earlier this month with stealing a pickup truck at a local convenience store.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office investigated a robbery of the store by a man later identified as Charles Mangum Broughton.
Broughton, 43, of the 1100 block of Leonard Road, is accused of wearing a welder’s coat and hat and walking into the store armed with a shotgun and leaving with an unknown amount of money.
Salisbury police say Rowan County investigators went to serve an arrest warrant for Broughton when he pulled up in a pickup that had been reported stolen from the Murphy’s USA convenience store, 1010 Freeland Drive.
The victim said he’d left the keys in the ignition and went inside the store to buy some beer. When he came outside, his truck was gone. Investigators looked at store surveillance and police issued a description of the vehicle and person seen in the video to area law enforcement.
Broughton was arrested early Sunday morning and issued an additional $10,000 secured bond. He remains in the Rowan County Detention Center.
