Police investigators say someone broke through the wall of a Faith Road business to gain access to an AT&T store, where they stole cell phones, tablets and money from a safe sometime late Monday night.
Officials say nothing was taken from the GNC store next to AT&T, but it was the access point that thieves used to get through a break room wall inside the mobile phone store. The person pried open a back door to GNC and used a sledgehammer to break into a wall that joined the two businesses, located on Faith Road.
The person cut wiring in the ceiling, which alerted the alarm company for GNC. The owner was told by the security company there was a low battery reported. The owner decided to go into the store later since it was a battery issue, said Police Capt. Shelia Lingle. The owner arrived sometime later to discover the hole in the wall.
Lingle said it appeared the thieves tried to knock a hole through a bathroom wall, but were unable to get through. There were a couple of attempts made to get into AT&T through the walls, she said.
