The Travelling Talleys

LANDIS — Paul and Cindy Talley, a musical husband and wife duo known as the Travelling Talleys, will be at Landis First Assembly, 302 E. Corriher St., on Sunday at both the 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. services.

Paul Talley grew up performing with his family in 83 countries as well as in all 50 states.  He began recording with Word Records at the age of 11.

For many years, Paul ran from the Lord and played in rock and roll and country bands, receiving Warner Brothers contract offers. After coming to know the Lord, he pastored for 16 years and now he and Cindy travel full-time in musical evangelism.

Paul sings and plays the trumpet, accordion, keyboard, ukulele and guitar. Cindy accompanies on the bass guitar.

Pastors anniversary at Fairview Heights

Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist church will conclude its 14th Pastoral Anniversary observance for Pastor Clarence E. Marlin and First Lady Evangelist Cathy  Marlin on Sunday at the 11 a.m. service, with guest speaker Rev. Andrew Davis, associate minister of Shady Grove Baptist Church in East Spencer. Afterward there will be  dinner in the fellowship hall and then services will resume at 3 p.m. with Elder Timothy Lyons of St. John Primitive Baptist Church in Charlotte, as the guest speaker.

 

Heirline in concert

KANNAPOLIS — Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1600 Plaza Ave., will host Ernie Dawson and Heirline live in concert on Sunday at 6 p.m. This is a free concert.

 

Concert at Trading Ford Baptist Church

At 6 p.m. on Sunday night, Trading Ford Baptist Church will host a special evening of music with Jon Eagle & Friends.  The church is located at 3600 Long Ferry Road, 704-633-5986.

 

War Room’ plus small group study

On Sunday the widely acclaimed movie “War Room” will be shown at Calvary Baptist Church at 6 p.m.

“War Room,”  from the creators of “Fireproof” and “Courageous,” deals with the power of prayer in the life of the Christian and how a woman helps a family in emotional difficulty overcome issues that were tearing them apart.

The following Sunday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m.,  the  small group study begins studying materials from the movie and the book, “War Room,”  written as result of the movie itself. Topics include  Dealing with Spiritual Lukewarmness;  Christian Accountability;  Grasping Grace and the Gospel;   Engaging in Spiritual Warfare; and Trusting God in Prayer. Books are available for $8 each.

St. Matthew’s Lutheran concert

St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 9275 Bringle Ferry Road, presents Strings of Victory as its first quarter singing group on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the Family Life Center.

For 11 years, Strings of Victory has travelled throughout most of North Carolina, parts of South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia singing and playing traditional gospel music in a bluegrass style. Group members are Hubert Furr, rhythm guitar and vocals; Jeff McCorkle, 5-string banjo and vocals; Aaron Efird, mandolin; Donnie Miller upright bass and vocals; Madison McCorkle, lead vocalist.

 

In My Father’s House Outreach Ministries

In My Father’s House Outreach Ministries, led by the Rev. Roosevelt Jenkins, continues its series on The Purpose Driven Life, on Thursday, Jan. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Hurley Room at Rowan Public Library, 201 W. Innes St.

Breakfast at Rock Hill AME Zion

GQ family dinner night in the works

GRANITE QUARRY — Granite Quarry Fellowship,  111 S. Salisbury Ave., is making plans to serve the community a free dinner from 6-8  p.m. the last Friday of every month, starting Jan. 29, so that families can benefit from time together at no cost. All Saints’ Grapes for Saints Outreach

CONCORD — On Jan. 30 All Saints’ Grapes For Saints Outreach along with The Wine Room is hosting a Tutored Wine Tasting and a Silent Auction in support of the general outreach fund. There will be five or six wines, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, door prizes and an All Saints’ souvenir wine glass, all for $25. The silent auction preview is at 5:30 p.m. The wine tasting and silent auction are from 6-8:30 p.m. in  the All Saints Parish Hall at at 525 Lake Concord Road. For tickets, visit All Saints on Sundays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. or call Andrea Holdren at 980-521-5276.

 

Charity shoe drive

Outreach Christian Ministries Int’l is sponsoring a shoe drive through Jan. 31. New or slightly used shoes will be accepted and shipped overseas to help those less fortunate. Call  704-637-9955 for details.
